Bowling not permitted during lockdown

Hi Everyone

Another change in restrictions from Thursday, 5th November. Having read these we are of the opinion that there is no way crown green bowling can take place within a safe environment and in consultation with the BCGBA, we are directing clubs/players to stop crown green bowling from Thursday, 5th November 2020.

We appreciate this may cause disruption to ongoing winter leagues, club competitions (internal and open) and casual bowling but our view is that the health and safety of our members is of paramount importance and overrides other considerations.

When these restrictions are lifted/amended we shall issue further directions.

In the meantime all stay safe

Phil Scott

SCGBA Safeguarding Officer.

Update from the League Chairman

Unfortunately, Mark believes that there's no chance of any league bowls, competitions or knockouts being played this season. He is also concerned that some sort of social distancing may continue into next season and restrict the number of players allowed on the green at the same time. With this in mind, he'd welcome opinions from bowlers whether a reduction in the size of teams from 10 to 8 would be more acceptable.

Please email any thoughts or observations to highleybowlsleague@gmail.com or fill in the contact form.

Coronavirus Statement from the BCGBA

To County Secretaries, Management and Officers.

Following the Government announcement this afternoon it is with great sadness that we now have to suspend all bowling for the foreseeable future.

Based on the advice announced we need to avoid all mass gatherings and sporting event as these will no longer be supported by the emergency services.

If anyone within your household has symptoms then the whole family need to isolate for 14 days.

Limit social contact wherever possible and encourage working from home.

At risk groups - those over 70 and those with medical conditions need to take additional care.

All BCGBA meetings should now be postponed as un-necessary travel should be avoided. Contact in Pubs, Clubs and restaurants to be avoided.

Taking this all into account all leagues should now suspend matches until such time as we are given an all clear to resume competition.

All BCGBA and BCGLCC Competitions are now suspended until further notice this should include all qualifier events.

As a Bowls community we need to look after our members and I encourage you to follow the advice being given and support those we are able to at this very difficult time.

I will add links onto the website / face-book as these are updated.

Please take care of yourself and stay safe.

On behalf of the Management Committee BCGBA

Chris Hasselby (BCGBA Chairman)

Mark Bircumshaw (CEO)

  5. County report.

  6. League structure 2020.

The proposed schedule for league, knockout cups and competitions played on a Tuesday is as follows:

Propositions for the 2020 AGM

The following propositions have so far been received for discussion at the Annual General Meeting:

  1. Bridgnorth would like to submit the following proposition to the AGM in February:

All competitions shall be played on the designated date unless there are exceptional circumstances eg inclement weather, death within the club. The team who fails to field a side forfeits the game and the other team goes forward into the next round.

Passed

Also from Bridgnorth:

To amend Rule 3a regarding registered players:

Change registered 8 players DOWN to 6.

Reason: only 10 players per team and the current system of nominating 8 players seems excessive and hard to manage if you have more than one team in the League, especially during holiday periods.

Passed

From Horsehay:

Cup Knockout. For some years there has been effectively no set rules for how this competition has been run in, no set agg for each team and when the agg is set. Certainly not on the rules page of the Highley site rules.

My proposal would make it easier for each team of players to understand it to avoid any doubt how this works and how its run.

To read:

10. For cup knock out competitions the agg is based on the previous years league positions.

Where a team(s) is promoted from div 2 they would assume the position of the team(s) that finished bottom of div1 and vice versa.

AGG Numbers

Position

  1. Scratch

  2. Scratch

  3. 10

  4. 10

  5. 20

  6. 20

  7. 30

  8. 30

  9. 40

  10. 45

  11. 45

For the presidents cup (Every 3 years) the agg would be decided at the AGM prior to the start of that season.
